Confidence is "the mental attitude of trusting in or relying on a person or thing; firm trust, reliance, faith, assurance, boldness, fearlessness, arising from reliance (on oneself, on circumstances, on divine support, etc.)," and is synonymous with trust, which is "firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing."

Confidence is a soul virtue, and law of being, rooted in the principle of faith. You cannot be "somewhat" confident; you are or are not confident.

Edna Lister on Confidence

Take any setback, whatever it is, on the chin. Separate the blow from your confidence, and examine it. Use every delay and obstacle as a guide, a measuring rod of progress, but give it to God in prayer. – Edna Lister, Your Magnetic Powers, January 13, 1933.

Now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. – 1 John 2:28. The Word of truth is your assurance, and gives you confidence that if you dwell in him, he shall abide in you. Through Christ's help and love, you can overlook and overcome. – Edna Lister, Life Is a Task, March 15, 1936.

Let your confidence in God's Power be exalted. – Edna Lister, August 19, 1938.

You must have a spiritual anchor above and devotion to a Supreme Being of Light to whom you go in confidence to feel secure. – Edna Lister, January 13, 1939.

Stand in absolute confidence in the faithfulness of God's Power and Love to fulfill all His promises. – Edna Lister, August 2, 1940.

It is marvelous to wait upon the Lord in the high place of poise and Power, while you work out your own salvation where you are. This is the supreme test of your confidence in the faithfulness of God's ability to fulfill His promises to you. – Edna Lister, August 9, 1940.

The only loss is your loss of confidence in God's ability to "work all things together for good." – Edna Lister, March 12, 1941.

You may have perfect trust in God: This is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us. – 1 John 5:14. – Edna Lister, Flaming Desire, May 26, 1941.

You express your faith of God as confidence in His ability to perform miracle upon miracle. – Edna Lister, January 20, 1942.

Through prayer you gain assurance, confidence and trust in your soul's ability to commune with God. – Edna Lister, The Silence, April 12, 1942.

Let unconquerable faith be your great strength, your confidence and your only answer. – Edna Lister, October 14, 1942.

Take each day's steps confidently as they come to be taken. – Edna Lister, May 4, 1945.

Thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength. – Isaiah 30:15. So enough Love, Light and Power are enough quiet and confidence. – Edna Lister, July 3, 1945.

Love thy neighbor as thyself. – Matthew 22:39 refers to confidence in your own ability. Give your neighbor the same credit you give yourself; this is putting the Golden Rule to work. – Edna Lister, Thou Shalt Love, April 22, 1946.

Do not place confidence in man's work, but in God. – Edna Lister, August 10, 1947.

Intuitive consciousness asks God, seeks first the kingdom, and knocks to penetrate the veil that separates the visible from the invisible. Such a person has that "upward look" toward God because they are always looking above the worldly appearance. They base their optimism and faith on a "knowing" assurance and confidence in God and His right answers. – Edna Lister, Creative Imagination, May 1, 1949.

When you need assurance and confidence, read Psalm 91. – Edna Lister, The Flaming Sword, July 29, 1951.

Do not cross the line between self-confidence and boasting. – Edna Lister, October 21, 1951.

For God so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. – John 3:16. "For God so loved" are words of lavish giving. A Father who would send His firstborn Son in sacrifice for us reassures our confidence in God as our basis of eternal being. – Edna Lister, The Living Chalice, December 7, 1952.

The faith of God is constant and in it you find your own constancy and unalterable confidence in God. – Edna Lister, Faith: The Challenger, 1953.

Most of us would never do anything if we knew exactly how difficult the path was going to be! Courage, confidence in your ability to conquer, and a growing faith is life's reward for each step you take, for each obstacle you overcome along the way of destiny. – Edna Lister, Time: The Adjuster of Life, 1953.

By study and practice you can establish a certain secure identity with a Source that is immutable, invincible, unchangeable and immovable. The Source is ever there to be called upon; it fills all the emptiness, all the loneliness. Security fills the void, confidence and trust take charge, holding you more securely than hope. An inner "knowing" fills your life with new peace and joy. – Edna Lister, Eternal Youth, 1954, 1987.

Comparison is dangerous, for it produces negativity, undervaluing of your talents or abilities, and loss of confidence. – Edna Lister, March 29, 1954.

Ascension is a refining process of the soul, the moving up from part-time self-confidence to full soul confidence, which is based in divine principle. Self confidence is unimpressive because you can see through it, while soul confidence shows inspires the world. Self-confidence is based in outer things, but soul confidence places its trust in unfailing principle, which never falters. – Edna Lister, I Ascend, July 11, 1954.

Self-confidence must change into soul confidence when selfish desires and self-centered will become soul desires and free will, which form "I AM" consciousness, the fusing of desire and will. Self-confidence must change to soul confidence slowly and gradually, or the explosion can burn out the finer soul function of the endocrine glands. Self is always afraid to let go, yet self must become soul confidence to know the glorious freedom from bondage to earth. – Edna Lister, I Ascend, July 11, 1954.

The whole process of Ascension is a travail of soul moving from self confidence, which is egotism, to soul confidence. – Edna Lister, I Ascend, July 11, 1954.

Self confidence splits and cracks when needed most, but soul confidence is immutable because you have ascended to God. – Edna Lister, I Ascend, July 11, 1954.

Confidence is firm trust, assured expectation, unwavering boldness, not authoritative, dictatorial or brash. Your finest confidence is your trust in God. Be unwaveringly confident, with a firm standing and under-standing. Stand under the Light of God. – Edna Lister, What Is Confidence, December 11, 1955.

Confidence is trust or faith in what you believe, your ladder as you climb from the old. – Edna Lister, What Is Confidence, December 11, 1955.

The contrast between self and soul confidence is like the difference between light and dark. Faith's power moves through trust and builds real soul confidence. – Edna Lister, What Money Cannot Buy, December 1, 1957.

Satisfy your soul in the quiet and confidence of having an undisturbed home and place of rest. – Edna Lister, May 30, 1958.

A conquering attitude makes you untouchable, serene and confident, no matter what anyone says to you. – Edna Lister, November 3, 1958.

When an angel told Abraham to sacrifice his only son, he obeyed instantly because he knew by unconquerable faith that a miracle would come, and it did: A ram caught in the bushes replaced his son as the offering. Abraham had complete confidence that God had the solution, if he would trust Him. – Edna Lister, Faith Unconquerable, November 30, 1958.

A confidence shared under a demand for secrecy can be held secret only while the honor and love of the one demanding the secrecy lasts. When love is spent in secrecy, it becomes the world's property like an expired copyright. Under law, like a copyright, the time of holding a confidence expires, and when it is time for the world to know what you have already known, there is no betrayal, just the passing on of needed knowledge. Yet this is no permission or excuse for idle gossip. – Edna Lister, May 14, 1959.

Self confidence creates limitation, but soul confidence begets fortitude. – Edna Lister, Manifestation, May 24, 1959.

To be assured and comforted into confidence in God is essential. To establish your identity with God is critical. Without this confidence and identification, you cannot know your service, or find the Way. – Edna Lister, o! I Am With You Always, April 25, 1960.

Your Oversoul will move into your body as confidence when you believe what the Master said: Ask, and it shall be given to you. Matthew 7:7. – Edna Lister, What Is Healing? May 17, 1960.

Soul confidence must be born of faith, the substance of the eternal life sparks that heal and renew. – Edna Lister, What Is Healing? May 17, 1960.

Every soul who comes to earth seeks to identify with something. It may be mundane, as in earthly love, money or material goods, but everyone seeks something in which to trust, an identity in which to have confidence. – Edna Lister, From Adam to Jesus, May 22, 1960.

When you have no faith in your soul, you have no confidence or trust in God. You must know that you are a descended creator god, then you need faith that God uses you, and ascend as a creator god. When you have enough faith and trust in the Father, you become faith and confidence. – Edna Lister, From Adam to Jesus, May 22, 1960.

The secret to reaching complete confidence and trust in God is to put on the whole armor of God – not half, not part, but the whole armor – to withstand and having done all, to stand. – Edna Lister, God Is Safe and Dependable, June 5, 1960.

Faith is enough when backed by divine love and confidence about what must be healed and how to do it. – Edna Lister, Is Faith Enough? June 21, 1960.

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. – 1 John 5:14-15. God will grant anything you ask, according to His will, if you have confidence in Him. – Edna Lister, Here and Hereafter, October 9, 1960.

You must eliminate fear, and ascend on complete surrender, total selflessness, confidence in and comprehension of God. – Edna Lister, January 29, 1961.

Faith is complete trust and confidence in the Power of God and that His Power is always working. Act as if you have it in the moment you ask. Believe until you know that God's will for you is good. Jesus said that it is the Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. When you trust yourself, God trusts you. – Edna Lister, This One Thing I Do, November 26, 1961.

Accept instantly, then wait upon the Lord in quiet confidence, doing all obediently, using discrimination, discernment. – Edna Lister, April 16, 1962.

Trust in God imparts untouchable, serene soul confidence. – Edna Lister, April 14, 1963.

Declarations for Confidence in God

"I am now filled with confidence because I trust God. I am now putting all my affairs in God's hands. I am now leaving my affairs in God's hands." – Edna Lister, Unpublished Lectures, 1931.

"Father, please send forth through me enough of the Power of Love to fulfill all the needs of my family and myself. You can now trust me with the wealth of the Kingdom to distribute to the world. I am now ready to be used to release this inner abundance that shall relieve the whole of humanity. You can now trust me to use all that I need for myself and send the rest forth into the world." – Edna Lister, The Gold Standard, 1934.

For security, declare, "God is my security." See yourself as secure in God. Expect your highest good, which is better than the human mind understands. "I AM secure." See yourself as secure in your present condition or circumstances. Know that the good is there, waiting to reveal itself to you, and bless it, though you don't see it yet. – Edna Lister, March 20, 1968.

Edna Lister created this sermon outline for January 30, 1938. Scripture: Matthew 6:24-34.

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. – Matthew 6:24-34.

Confidence is "firm trust, assured expectation, and boldness." You have confidence in people and in some things, such as cars, street cars, and boats, because the men behind them, the makers, make it possible for you to trust them. They test them and try them out, which is like God, tempting you to fail.

You have confidence that earth is here in the morning when you arise. You have confidence that the sun is behind the clouds, and that the moon and stars will light the night sky. Why do you not have a similar confidence in God, His mercies, gifts and miracles?

The lilies of the field are confident of their line of Light to the Source. You spin your line of Light as a shuttle* uses a bobbin of thread to weave a lacy fabric of glory, triumph and victory.

* A shuttle is a wooden device with two pointed ends holding a bobbin, used for carrying the weft thread between the warp threads in weaving.

I Ascend 1

Edna Lister created this sermon outline for July 11, 1954. Scriptures: John 1:50-51 and John 2:1-11.

Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these. And he said to him, Verily, verily, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man. – John 1:50-51.

And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, and saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him. – John 2:1-11.

What is ascension? A mystical term, ascension is to the mystic what atomic research is to the scientist. It is a positive, deliberate moving inward, a "getting behind" the visible material appearance. Ascension is a refining process of the soul, the moving up from self-confidence, which is a variable thing, to soul-confidence, which is a constant, based in divine principle.

Science penetrates though the outer husk of an atom into that inner substance, held within the outer shell as in a protective sheath. You cannot see the finer substance released from the atom with the physical eye. Yet you can see the effect during the controlled release of this substance.

When a mind penetrates this sheath, it is called ascension of consciousness. You may not see the soul of man with the physical eye, but you can see the effects of the soul's release of Power. Soul-power, unleashed, acts on the outer sheath.

Self-expression shows as what the world calls personality. Soul-expression not only shows as personality, but the world can actually feel its influence. Self-confidence impresses no one because you see through its sham. Soul-confidence shows, and inspires the world.

Living by self dulls the personality, while living by soul makes it shine. Self-confidence is based in outer appearances, but soul-confidence places its trust in unfailing principle, which never falters.

Mary herself had been born of an immaculate conception. She had fully open spiritual seeing and hearing, and knew that Jesus must begin his ministry soon. Yet Jesus, who also knew, must have had a moment of something like dread when she spoke to him about the wine. Remember, he suffered in all ways, even as other men suffer. He had to endure every experience to hold fast all the world's lines of responsibility when he took them up through the Gates of Light.

The six stone waterpots symbolize a solid foundation. Six represents the creative cosmic Father and Mother, the double trinity of all Creation. When his mother told the servants to obey him, she opened his mission on the love vibration, the Mother ray.

She knew what he meant when he said, "Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come." – John 2:4. She had prepared the way, and Jesus then ate his words. Immediately he opened his ministry by telling them to fill the waterpots. Simply, with no fuss, he told them to draw some wine and take it to the master of the feast.

When you pray, you must use all that you have in your hands now. At this point, selfish desire and self-centered will fuse into free will, the infallible, perfect will of God. Soul, which is already part of God the All, instantly absorbs self-confidence into "I AM" soul-confidence. Self-confidence must change into soul-confidence, because "I AM" consciousness is the result of the fusing of desire and will.

Why does your neighbor not ascend in consciousness when you do? An immature chick in the shell is too weak to peck its way out, but would die if you opened its shell from the outside. A mother hen sits on the nest, alert to the tiniest peep, ready to get off, not to smother the chick.

You cannot force anyone to ascend in consciousness too soon or too suddenly. Self-confidence must change to soul-confidence slowly and gradually, or the explosion can burn out the finer soul function of the endocrine glands, which take a long time to repair.

Take one step at a time to ascend in consciousness slowly, gradually filled with the full Power of God, the ninth dimensional substance, which burns out all dross. Nothing on earth can resist its dynamic, dramatic, self-sustaining and self-renewing activity, for it changes anything it touches, and transforms your life.

How do you apply this to your daily life? Lift all your lines of Light and responsibility. You already hold the lines of earth responsibility, from all people in all the signs, in your hands. If you let go of the lines, they fall back, and entangle you with others. Yet all are safe while you are standing in the white Light of the Christ, holding the lines.

Mary, representing the feminine Mother of Love in this text, is soul intuition, a part of "I AM," saying, "The time has come." Every day is your miracle day. Love must always prepare the way.

The son in this example is the little self, saying. "How does this relate to me?" Self is always afraid to let go of its "little" self-confidence, yet self must become soul-confidence to know the glorious freedom from bondage to earth.

Then is the promise fulfilled, "Verily, verily, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man." – John 1:51.

I Ascend 2

This Edna Lister sermon transcript is dated July 11, 1954. Scribe: Ruth Johnson. Scriptures: John 1:50-51 and John 2:1-11.

To ascend, you must first know what ascension means. Different cults and sects have made ascension so personal that especially self-confident persons apply it until they become too saintly to live with their families, break marital vows, and leave their loved ones with aching hearts.

Soul ascension is to the world of devotion to God, to searchers and students of God's principles, exactly what atomic research is to scientists. Moving from outer to inner, science breaks the sheath of an atom, releasing protons, neutrons and electrons. Spirit moves through the five outer senses to the inner world of the soul where you find life's essence, but only if you accept to truth of Spirit.

You cannot prove these truths wholesale, and each must prove them for himself. You cannot explode an atom, though your body does so constantly, but we believe that it can be done. Though you are not in the lab, you take the physicists' word on faith because you see the results. So you can take Jesus' words on faith because enough people have proven his words through the last nineteen centuries.

Ascension is moving inward and upward to the world of miracles. The mundane world will see and believe when enough people ascend to the miraculous world.

You cannot contact your full powers of soul without three phases of ascension: Emergence from outer to inner, maturity or expansion in consciousness, and ascension inward and upward to the ninth dimension, which you use in healing and soul ascension.

The whole process of ascension is a travail of soul moving from self-confidence, which is egotism, to soul-confidence. "Father, I surrender to be possessed by all Power." You may not use Power, but it uses you.

Self-confidence splits and cracks when needed most, but soul-confidence is immutable and unchangeable because you have ascended to God. It increases your capacity to release Power and you can see the results.

You see such self-centered expressions in the faces of people you meet. Failed self-confidence shows as the wrinkles of time. Soul has personality, which you can see as the Light within shining from the eyes. Eyes like a dead fish's show that the person has used up his soul substance, yet no self dims the eyes of an ascending soul.

This text paints a picture of Jesus and Mary at the wedding in Cana. Mary interfered when she said, "They have no wine," and Jesus told her to mind her own business. Yet she instructed the servants to do his bidding and he changed the water into wine.

Jesus had to eat his words only twice, at the wedding, and in Gethsemane when he said, "Let this cup pass from me." Everyone must lift and wipe out his own idle words and misused soul substance.

Pride is the adulterous taint that kills hope. Watch for it on your path. Most people think that admitting they are wrong is degrading, and flatter themselves if another rephrases to admit his error. Erase your misused words instantly, and admit you are still learning. Saying, "I don't know," is no disgrace. The library is full of books that can give you the answers. [Today, the internet is the source of many answers, as well as disinformation.]

You release the Power of the Word whenever you answer a question. One who answers under great Light is responsible for the Power the answer releases, though his guards pick up the slack or cover any slip.

Mary was born as an immaculate conception. She knew her role in the overall plan for Jesus' mission, but I wonder, did she know, as she started him on his ministry, that it would end in his death? She knew he would ascend, perhaps before thousands, but did she know that it would be after a crucifixion?

Mary simply knew that Jesus had to begin his ministry on the vibration of Mother Love before he could ascend. The water at the wedding represented the change from water, the ruling vibration of Wisdom, which is draws Mind from the Source, into the wine of Spirit, the Love vibration that draws everything back to the Source.

This story describes how Jesus ascended from self-confidence to soul-confidence. Everyone is self-confident in varying degrees, yet few of us have yet attained full soul-confidence.

Why, you ask, won't your family and friends accept this new idea, too? Accepting new ideas and concepts means cracking the old idea's shell. You may not prematurely or harshly crack others' shells under ascension laws. You would smash atoms, destroy the endocrine glands and they would have nothing left with which to understand.

The best way to crack another's shell is to be such an ensample of unconquerable faith, unquenchable love, invincible joy and irresistible attraction that the ninth dimension of universal fellowship reaches out and enfolds everyone. Never ask why, but simply follow the Via Christa to become an instrument of all God's Power.

Would you follow a moth-eaten teacher? Then why follow old, worn-out ideas? Do you not seek a God of beauty, love, wisdom and joy? You are now ascending from self to soul-confidence. How do you apply this to your life?

Jesus came to experience every earth lesson and lift every line of darkness through the Gates of Light when he ascended. So did you. Someone on earth must reach out and draw in the fallen lines, and this is your duty, starting today.

The Zodiacal Path is the Wheel of Fate, and its center is the hub of white Christ Light. Withdraw your past and step from your birth sign at the periphery to the hub of Light when you ascend. Though others may clutch and try to pull you off, you cannot drag them with you as you go to God. Yet you can and must pick up their lines of Light and put them on a cloud continent for Light to cleanse and transform them. Then you are responsible for holding their lines until they, too, ascend.

Stand on the hub of the wheel, in your room of Light when a blow strikes. The choice is yours. You can wallow in birth sign negativity, or ascend to the wheel's hub, lifting the darkened lines.

Mary, prompting Jesus at the wedding, symbolizes the Mother preparing the way with love. Your time has come. The world needs the wine of Spirit, the Mother Love vibration leading from self to soul-confidence.

The six vessels of stone represent your creative powers based on immutable principles. Your guards pour Power from waterpots to make your creative powers blossom. Declare, "Fill the waterpots," and they will. Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast of God's love.

Realization Through Praise 1

Edna Lister created this sermon outline for June 26, 1960. Scripture: Philippians 4:4-19.

Rejoice in the Lord always: And again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction. Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. For even in Thessalonika ye sent once and again unto my necessity. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odor of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:4-19.

Paul wrote the Philippians, "I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need." – Philippians 4:12. To abound means "to be copiously supplied; to be rich, to overflow." To abase means "to depress, to humble, to put down, to lower." Kipling said it differently:

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch.
Rudyard Kipling, If

Paul is teaching balance in this Epistle. His people had forgotten him and he had been hungry. Yet, he calls them his joy and his crown. When you love, you do not blame and therefore have nothing to forgive. He tells them, "Let your requests be known" through prayer, supplication and thanksgiving, three ways operating as one. We are bound together in Spirit, first with rejoicing, to which we add perfect vision:

Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. – Philippians 4:8. Under prayer, you finally realize that only God can ever satisfy you. Rejoicing so fills your soul with longing for Light that your desire becomes too big for your body to contain.

The resultant explosion is prayer. You must talk to God. To "be careful for nothing" means to become so absorbed in the love of God that nothing else counts. Then your realization of God's glory grows until God becomes real. You know that love can convert hope and plans into outer miracles.

You know that only love can bridge the abyss from the past across the now into the future of "added things." You know that your love's capacity determines the miracles you have. Supplication is not begging or pleading for favors, but is how you petition God for His help as more Power and strength. Supplication is invoking Light and an outpouring of Power. Under supplication comes the quiet and confidence that are peace in action.

Yet first comes understanding, which is "to stand under the Light." To have an inspiration is standing under the Light. To have a desire is to stand under the Light. To look up in consciousness is to stand under the Light. To have a great longing, you must be under the Light.

Understanding releases the first Power that brings peace, which is composed of quiet and confidence. Quiet says, "Be still, and know that I am God." – Psalm 46:10. The One who says, "I AM God," also says, "I AM now ever ready, ever available."

Quiet brings you up in consciousness to peace. Be quiet a while. Rest and abide a while, under the shadow of the love of Almighty God. The one who knows within takes time to be quiet, to love, to stand still and to see the salvation of God.

Confidence means "the mental attitude of trusting in or relying on a person or thing; firm trust, reliance, faith, assurance, boldness, fearlessness, arising from reliance (on oneself, on circumstances, on divine support, etc.), and is synonymous with trust."

The difference between success and failure depends on your confidence. Failure comes when self feeds the soul the sedatives of doubt and fear. Fear of failure puts soul to sleep, shuts it in the dark office at night, or in the golf bag Sunday evening.

Self says, "If I'd only had his advantages. If I had only been given a chance." When self lowers soul to half-mast, it wanders, wanting to die and leave it all behind, all the disappointments and the joy. Success demands great things of soul in confidence, but not in self-confidence. First, have confidence in the power of God's love, which is bracing and building.

Soul moves up in consciousness from the Valley of Dread into the sunlight of praiseful thanksgiving. You can then use the now perfectly because soul ignores the past. Thanksgiving is high praise. Praise sets spiritual substance into action to form your abundance "according to His riches in glory." Spiritual substance pours forth to fill your prayer molds.

Some praise looks like a long strand of sausage links, fat and squeezed together, sometime made happy by life, sometimes tied down by people. If your love and praise are weak, the opposition wins. If love and praise are strong, the opposition weakens and dies. Is your praise the sausage variety, or is it outstanding? Does your praise invoke the whole beauty of God's universe?

Dare to love beauty, hold it close and feed your soul on it. Dare to praise and invoke that beauty, for you are the sum total of your kingdom of Light, love and beauty. Nothing outside can touch you if you feel beautiful inside.

Dynamic love and praise are vital, energetic and soul-satisfying. Today's praise is tomorrow's glory. Your realization of God's love is poise. Your realization of the praise of God is Power itself.

Realization Through Praise 2

This Edna Lister created this sermon transcript is dated June 26, 1960. Scribes: Edna Bender, Ruth Johnson and Irene White. Scripture: Philippians 4:4-19.

Paul wrote the Letter to Philippians, who had not supported him, but left him to starve. His wrote in thanks that they had finally remembered him so he could eat again.

I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. – Philippians 4:12. Abundance is wealth, abasement is a lowered vibration, to be diminished, and Paul knew both. Kipling said you must reach the place where neither praise nor blame affects you:

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch.
Rudyard Kipling, If

Peter taught a gospel of love. Paul, who had come up through a hard school, laid down law, but was gentle about it in greeting the Philippians: My beloved and longed for brethren, my joy and crown. – Philippians 4:1. These people had forgotten him, yet Paul could say this, which showed that no blame lay under his surface. He had no need to forgive because he attached no blame. Paul really knew the love of God.

"Let your requests be made known to God" means to ask, not demand of God. Supplication and thanksgiving were Paul's kind of prayer. They knew Jesus' formula for prayer, which is based on love of God. They knew about Power and the descent of the Holy Ghost, so they prayed for greater comprehension of law.

Two dynamic laws, rejoicing and praise, encompass this. Rejoicing raises your rate of vibration. Joy ascends you to a high point of appreciation, realization that God is all joy. If you want to pray the kind of prayers that bring answers, rejoice and ascend to this place of glory. You may not be full of care or doubts when you "come to Me." Ascend in consciousness, and love brings everything into outer expression.

Rejoicing, which opens all doors and lifts everything, ascends you above the world's idiocies, to a high point of appreciation for the answers to come through. God becomes real and rejoicing fills you so full of illumination that your body simply does not contain it. You invoke an explosion of Light from the toes upward during prayer. You can touch this ecstasy of knowing God, and reach illumination only under rejoicing.

Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. – Philippians 4:8.

If you are to pray the prayer that gets things done, prepare the way by rejoicing, just because God is. Think of God as your Father, as Jesus said, someone who understands you in all you do, good, bad or indifferent, even when you miss the mark of your high calling. Go up, up, up in bursting glory where prayers are efficacious. That is prayer.

"Be careful for nothing." God says, "Do not be anxious, full of cares, worries, doubts or fears when you come to Me." Ascend in consciousness when you feel yourself slipping, and grab your armor of Light. Surrender the anxieties, ascend and think of God, not outer concerns, even when someone reviles or despitefully uses you.

It is impossible but that offenses will come. – Luke 17: 1. People offend you when they are not doing what you want. Do not expect one who always forgets birthdays and anniversaries to remember them. God gives humanity free choice. Weeping because another offends you is useless.

Go up in consciousness on praise, which is your only chance to relieve the world of evil. Have joy enough to ascend above it, and your prayer lifts the evil from way up there next to God. You cannot lift when you are wishy-washy. The Father must use the Light-Substance you release to lift you, and each gives according to what is in his heart. Love enough brings forth every dream and hope of life, and you will watch love transform others before your eyes. Be alive.

Your prayers must broadcast the love of God. If someone needs a promotion or an increase in salary, a good treatment is, "Get ready. Here comes Sue, ready to receive her raise. Her increased paycheck is on its way." For example, to treat for an election, say, "Get ready. God is on the march. Justice shall prevail."

Make a joyful declaration. "Watch out below. Love bombs are falling." Love carries you from the past into a future of Power and illumination. The minute you sink down in consciousness, nothing happens. Love works only if you let it.

The old idea of supplication prayer was to beg, wheedle and entice, which says you need more Light, joy and love, even outer added things. A perfect prayer of supplication is a petition: "Let Your Power fill me to overflowing for every need and my service in the world. Let Light fill me with more illumination, more health. Lord, help my unbelief. Let Thy Light wipe out my doubts and fears. If you want God to sign your petition in His heart, present it in love, backed with peace.

Paul identifies the "peace of God, which passes all understanding." This means that peace is above understanding, which is the Light descending. Peace is the essence of inner quiet and confidence, not stagnation but a "do something" peace.

When you work for peace from the outside, you get more conflict to conquer, but when you ascend to peace, it descends on you. Your desire starts a vibration of activity. If you really want peace, start a vibration of giving.

Understanding means "I stand under the Light. As Light descends, all things come to me." Stand squarely under the Light, in the quiet and confidence of God's life, as a rod of Power.

Your very desire to have something immediately puts you under the Light. How much Light descends depends on the quality and quantity of your enthusiasm. How great is your desire for the Light? How greatly do you desire to have the full Light of God come through you?

Most people have little time for prayer or God. To many, prayer is a lifeless daily repetition. Take time to be quiet, not to go blank, but to wait upon the Lord. Stop and consider the beauty of the Lord.

Be still and know that I am God. – Psalm 46:10. Be quiet and the Light will descend, more or less, depending on you. Give it a chance, just a little more rejoicing and love as it sweeps away the debris and frees you.

Light gives you great confidence and trust in your ability to stand and know. When you stand at the point between the outer vibration and ascension, the Power and love show, they shine from you.

People may call you egotistical because they misunderstand the Power. When you release more love with the Power, love is all they see. The Power of God touches everyone, wherever you go. Fill all your destinations with a sun center of Light.

The difference between failure and success is soul-confidence versus self-confidence. You move from self-confidence into trust in God and the power to become like Him. "I am created for Power to use. The greater a servant of Power I am, the more Power moves through and uses me." Confidence in God assures you that He is doing the work.

Those who lack soul-confidence begin to grow a sense of failure. They come home disgusted with their day's efforts, lock half their souls in the office for the weekend, and are so full of care, they have nothing left to give at home.

Treat your whole office daily until it is a sun center of Light. Declare that everyone is held in a sphere of Light: "God is touching your brain cells to be alive."

When you golf, play soul golf. As you address the ball, see it going 300 yards. Reach for the feeling of soul coordinating with the physical. You need coordination for the soul-confidence of God.

Move through confidence to a place of automatic thankfulness. Be grateful for what has been, what is, and for what is to come.

You have praised and prayed, and offered your petition of supplication. Now, under under thankfulness, know the truth, the honor of God above all things, the justness of God. Look on only the good.

When you receive something negative, do not blame the other fellow. You can receive only what you send forth. You sent forth the vibration, and it came home to roost. The law of God is just and perfect. The reaction is perfect and complete.

Were it not for God's forgiveness, you could not bear the weight of your blame or self-righteousness. It does not pay to live with your soul at half mast. Escape is no help. Only moving up to confidence in Power, to "I AM loves you," sets you free. Praise and rejoicing will lift your soul, and you can see the other fellow ascend in consciousness as you say, "I AM is lifting you."

Are you a sausage-linker, or do you praise constantly? The love of God is yours now. Are you afraid to invoke the power of beauty into your life, the symphony of nature, all good? You can love beauty wherever you are. Meditate on beautiful things.

When you hold this beautiful feeling inside, people begin to seek you. Power puts the right words on your lips and all things good are added, promises fulfilled. A cloud of loveliness and beauty forms for every good thought or deed. Light is all beauty.

The minute you get that beautiful feeling, call your sheep by name. You have so much past good out there, haven't you redeemed enough ugliness? Call home the sheep of your love and beauty, not the black sheep of negativity.

Paul said, "Rejoice in the Lord always: And again I say, Rejoice." Stand under the Light in the quiet and confidence of the life of God, and you will be full of peace. You can get peace only by standing under the Light, not by working on the outside or all you get is more tests to try you. Ascend under the Light and your gift is peace.

You will have confidence in the love of God, the Light of God. Best of all, you will no longer call yourself a single name. God shall supply all your need according to His riches. – Philippians 4:19. Prayer is love that catches you up in its arms today and lands you safely tomorrow. Today's praise is tomorrow's glory.

Our God is a God of riches according to His glory to bestow upon you, so ask. Praise is the Power of God Himself moving through your affairs. Christian Larson said, "All things respond to the call of rejoicing; all things gather where life is a song." Good shall result when your praise is strong. Cover your family with Light, and call them your joy and crown.

Say, "Here I come. God fills this house with glory. 'I AM' is enveloping them. Dear God, build the Light around them so thickly that I cannot see them anymore. All I will see is the Master's face on the Mount of Transfiguration. Watch out, evil. The Father is marching!"

Love always wins. In this you can have confidence and trust, which you know from that quiet place of soul, where you entertain only beauty. Lift us and use us, in thy name, Master.

New Testament on Confidence

We know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. – 2 Corinthians 5:1-8.

I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: to the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: in whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. – Ephesians 3:7-19.

Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. – Hebrews 10:35-37.

Abide in [Christ]; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him. – 1 John 2:28-29.

My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. – 1 John 3:18-24.

This is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. – 1 John 5:14-15.
