Heritage and Birthright

Heritage is "that which has been or may be inherited, any property that devolves by right of inheritance." It is the "portion" allotted to or reserved for anyone, e.g., that of the righteous or the wicked in the world to come. Heritage is "that which comes from the circumstances of birth, an inherited lot or portion, the condition or state transmitted from ancestors."

A birthright includes "the rights, privileges, or possessions to which birth entitles one, inheritance, patrimony."

Perfection is our divine birthright and heritage. The character that Jesus portrayed in the Beatitudes is our birthright. It is our heritage to become perfect servants of love.

Edna Lister on Heritage and Birthright

Let nothing of earth blind you to God's love, or turn you from the heritage that awaits you in heaven and on earth now. Light you were, Light you are, to Light shall you return. So it is. Light, therefore, is your necessity, even as water is necessity to the finny tribes of the deep. When you are out of the pure Light, by making clouds about you, you are unable to move. It has been said, "In Him dost thou live and move and have thy being." If He is of the Light, then you shall always need that Light. Even as He is Light, so are you Light, so have you need of living in that Light. Move into the fullness of that Light. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, November 24, 1939.

Joy, which gives you balance, is your heritage forever. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 22, 1941.

You have no right to use Power in any way, by consciously forcing it forth, but your very birthright is to use life. God has put life at your disposal, and no matter how much you have used, you have only played at using it. Think about the limitless, exhaustless, eternal life, the same yesterday, today, forever, abiding, deathless, ageless, never old, never young, just perfect in God's maturity of Wisdom. You may use all you want of it. So, the real conquering boils down to a very fine essence: How much life do you want to use? – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, September 17, 1941.

Perfection is your divine birthright and heritage. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, February 6, 1942.

An inheritance is something left to you, legally, your share or portion of a heritage. You must accept it as a gift, a possession or a blessing, freely bestowed or given. Service, sacrifice and success comprise your heritage. – Edna Lister, Your Inheritance, May 31, 1942.

We all have equality in our birthright. If it were not so, then those of wealth could not know poverty and vice versa. What you do with your twenty-four hours a day, how you color it, this is yours. We are equal in no other way. All have equal rights to use the love, faith, and Light of God. We all have the equal right to advance. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, September 3, 1949.

Power is the heritage of all Christed Ones. You brought with you all the necessary powers of Mind to plan, and Energy to execute the required actions. – Edna Lister, Power: Our Divine Inheritance, November 27, 1949.

Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? – John 10:34. Turnips grow from turnip seeds. You are a seed of God, a potential creator, and ascension is your heritage. – Edna Lister, Ye Are Gods, November 30, 1952.

It is a matter of choice whether you collect the inheritance due you. Be greedy in collecting your share at the window of abundance. We have a fully royal birthright as heirs to the kingdom of heaven. – Edna Lister, Your Full Birthright, December 6, 1959.

The only way to enter your Father's house is to accept in humility your full birthright of receiving and of giving. – Edna Lister, Your Full Birthright, December 6, 1959.

It is your heritage to become a perfect servant of Love. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, March 3, 1960.

There is only one love, the love of God. Acknowledge it and you will find the right words upon your lips. You will find a glory invading you and your household, and answers to old qustions. Strength above strength will fill you. You use the same love that the Father pours upon you, and it speaks through you. Take time daily to think this. Hold it and treasure it. The same love possesses all, and the same glory fills all. Let love fill you and overflow, to use you greatly, magnificently, more gloriously than it has never used you before. Why deny yourself this Power or hesitate to declare that you love as God loves? It is very improvident when so many miracles can come to pass. Miracles of love are your heritage, so reconcile yourself to it. Reconstruct your life into divine action and you will become love in action. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, May 8, 1960.
