Number

Number is "a position in an ordered sequence that corresponds to one of the positive integers; one item in a group or series considered to be in numerical order; a total, a sum." As a verb, number is "to assign a number to; to determine the number or amount of; count; to total in number or amount."

A number may be cardinal or ordinal: Cardinal numbers, are the numbers, one, two, three, etc., in distinction from first, second, third, etc., which are called ordinal numbers. An ordinal number is "a number noting order; as the ordinal numbers, first, second, third, etc."

Order is qualitative; number is quantitative.

Cardinal points, in cosmography, are the four intersections of the horizon with the meridian, and the prime vertical circle, or North and South, East and West. In astrology, the cardinal points are the rising and setting of the sun, the zenith and nadir. Cardinal signs, in astronomy and astrology, are Aries (east), Libra (west), Cancer (south) and Capricorn (north). Cardinal winds, are those which blow from the cardinal points (east, west, south, and north).

“All mysteries of the universe involve the principle of number.”

Light, color and tone combine as one to produce the principle of number that brings the life sparks, the basic units of divine Substance, together to form countless combinations, ready to be acted upon by Mind exercising Power. Number dictates the place of anything in Creation; name dictates its form.

Notably, Hebrew, the language used to write the Torah (the Law, the Pentateuch), is the only language in which each letter is also the name of a number and has a numerical value. It numbers from one to nine, from ten to ninety, and from one hundred to nine hundred. Thus, number designates both an action and a state of being, a verb, transitive or intransitive, or a noun when treated as a name.

Edna Lister on Number

The succession of moments and events gives us the basis for number. Kant described number as the "science of time." The objective basis of number involves the distinctness of objects. Counting involves the establishment of a unit. Units, such as work, temperature, time, and space, are determined by the mind itself. A unit is an abstract form of the act of positioning. Number arises from the repetition of this act of positioning under a synthetic form of counting. This unfolds into a numerical series — Powers, roots, logarithms, differentials, integrals, limits and rates. Mind creates its own data processes and problems, and tests by its own insight.—Edna Lister, Philosophy, December 23, 1935.

God’s great Creative Plan reveals the harmonic laws of color, musical tone, number and geometrical form, and the universal principles of the law of propagation, which is the progression of all things in the manifested universe.—Edna Lister, The Divine Scale of Twelve, January 7, 1937.

From the innermost Source to the universe’s outermost periphery, the absolute principles of equilibrium and harmony express as and act through six fundamental principles of Light, color, tone, number, name and form. Light, color and tone combine as one to produce number, which brings life sparks together for the countless combinations to be acted on by the fifth principle, name.—Edna Lister, A Design for Ascension, 1941.

From the complete living soul itself to the individual life sparks that form the outer physical sheath, Substance forever clings to its own number and name and to no other. Number and name constitute eternal identity. Once God bestows eternal identity on a living soul, it cannot be lost. Every cell of your complex physical body vibrates to your God-given number and name.

God enfolds the secret of your "new name" (Revelation 2:17) within this mystery of numbering and naming every creative life spark. They divulge your new name only when you raise the rate of vibration in every cell of your body, "as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness" (John 3:14). This includes new life sparks stamped with your number and name, bestowed on you from universal substance, which you use in new creations year after year.—Edna Lister, A Design for Ascension, 1941.

Once you set the keynote combination of Light, color and tone, the principle of number begins to operate as the next step in the creative process. You call substance together according to number to build a mold. Then you construct your mold according to the color of the newly conceived idea and the tone of your thinking. Without the spoken Word, your creations merely dangle in divine Mind as nebulous ideas, without form.—Edna Lister, A Design for Ascension, 1941.

Desire begins with aspiration, moves to inspiration, and leads to illumination, which operates under three Christed principles, tone, number and form. They belong to you, and yoked together, they create concord.—Edna Lister, The Yoke of Love, December 7, 1941.

God gives universal substance a new name and number as He bestows the living soul.—Edna Lister, The Candle of Glory, June 24, 1951.

No one can keep anything he has stolen, or that which is not his. Your name and number are stamped upon the star substance of your Oversoul.—Edna Lister, The Golden Silence, September 28, 1952.

Number becomes expression in form.—Edna Lister, Jesus, the Descended God, December 12, 1954.

All general action proceeds from Light to color to tone to number, until it reaches form, which manifests on the spoken Word. By the color of your words, you either condemn or "bear witness to Light." It shows where you walk, with self or with God. Words can be grey or brilliantly hued. Tone tells what you are, what you are doing and what you are planning. Your life reveals how you use number: Unselfishly as I AM consciousness, or selfishly as me. As you breathe, you show your use of these principles. All form comes through their use.—Edna Lister, Four Phases of the Word, February 1, 1955.

Name and number are how the Father knows every hair of your head. Each life spark is named, numbered and you must redeem and lift them to be purified and returned to you later.—Edna Lister, Numbers and Names—Twelve Cosmic Magnitudes, July 10, 1956.

The principle of number is the spoken Word of the Logos; it governs the vibration of the auric sheath of protection of Mother blue Light between the outer coating of cells and molecules. It is the seat of the aura’s rays of repulsion. The principle of number governs feeling or sensation (touch), the subconscious mind and molecular desire body.—Edna Lister, Enfolding Back to the Source, July 22, 1955.

Before God named and numbered your life sparks, He called them good.—Edna Lister, Being Without Self, November 2, 1958.

The name principle (form) comes under the number principle as a subsidiary idea, since number is a designation and name makes an explanation. They name you here on earth, but God numbers you in heaven. Number is the source of name.—Edna Lister, The Kabbalistic Four Worlds, May 26, 1959.

From the moment of your rebirth, you call on Oversoul substance from the Source, stamped with your number and name, as I AM.—Edna Lister, Jesus’ Seven Last Words, June 7, 1959.

Divine Mind directs and controls through the fundamental principles of Light, color, tone, number and form, by which it lowers the vibration of Light, condensing it into substance in successively denser stages until it reaches the point at which you may recognize it as form.—Edna Lister, The Relationship Between Color and Number, February 19, 1970.

Chromatics, mathematics, music, and geometry must be closely associated with their principles of Light, color, tone, number, and form for perfect development as divine realities. The logic of the mystic, as revealed through parables, comparisons, and figures of speech, forms our foundation in comprehending the mind and method of Deity. Imagination of the past is really the logic of Ascension.—Edna Lister, The Sixth Trumpet, June 2, 1970.

New Testament on Number

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.—Matthew 10:29-31.

Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.—Luke 12:6-7.
