Rebellion

Rebellion is "open or determined defiance of or resistance to any authority or controlling power." Thus, rebellion is "an act or a show of defiance toward authority, a fight or struggle against any kind of control."

Do not let another's self-righteousness breed rebellion in you. Rebellion is a soul taint akin to repudiation.

Jesus said to Peter, "When you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish." – John 21:18. When Peter was old, a young boy led him. Jesus was teaching Peter that if you are rebellious in youth and shackle yourself to the self-will, you squander your soul substance doing it your way. As you age, youth's "wants" become your "musts." – Edna Lister, Follow Me, November 29, 1959.

A taint of rebellion is infectious. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, December 12, 1960.

You must have room to expand under free choice. You create about yourself an area of choice the size of your giving in prayer. This creates a wall about us that no outer vibration can penetrate, unless you open a line of criticism against another. No one can enter or breach the wall unless you open a valve. Nothing can push the wall in on you. This is your base of operations. Outside interference can enter on your rebellion, irritation and resentment. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, September 7, 1961.

The world does not want to accept responsibility. The result is stubbornness in conquering, resistance to hearing a new law, and rebellion. This is the truth for the world. No matter how far you have climbed, when you delay accepting the law you have heard, you draw upon the magnetic currents of earth, which feed will. Even mild resentment or rebellion pulls up the magnetic current that reinforces the self-will.

Further, your reactions draw the magnetic currents through family, friends and coworkers, and add their force as momentum to push emotional and mental fatigue poisons past your navel to the crown, causing migraine headaches. Conversely, the etheric currents divinely protect the one who sees God in everyone, and declares it all good. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, June 7, 1962.

Rebellion and repudiation are under the surface when one's thinking is confused or disordered. Start with logic, reason, discrimination, discretion and discernment as your multiplication table for mental clarity. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, March 25, 1963.

Repudiation, rebellion, resentment and self-pity generate blame. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, September 5, 1963.

Rebellion against obedience is against the responsibility that must be assumed. The very firmness and stubbornness of the rebellion reveals the depth of ability inherent within the soul to stand firm upon principle under need. Let Light go forth to absorb rebellion. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 13, 1965.

Your Guardian Angels always shield and hold you unless you commit some atrocious act of rebellion that tears you from their arms. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 17, 1966.

Soul cannot rule when self drags it to the cellar of rebellion. – Edna Lister, Undated Papers, 1933-1971.

You face tests and trials by fire to purge you of rebellion and resentment of how others treat you. – Edna Lister, Undated Papers, 1933-1971.

When rebellious self divides itself from soul and Oversoul, no unity is possible. Subconscious mind separates itself from rational, thinking consciousness, superconscious inspiration and illumination, and no understanding is possible, for only confusion can result. While rebellion against the authority of law is the factor at work in such a situation, several unpleasant side effects will result: The inner conflict between self-will and divine will surely does manifest as arguing and confrontation, leading to outer conflict among the parties involved.

Thus, self becomes the "thief of peace" among the members of a family or other group, which should operate according to the law of unity of purpose, to serve the Light. When one applies logic, reason, discretion, discrimination and discernment, one can see that acting as the thief of peace in any situation will eventually lead one into becoming an agent of conflict, ending in war, which is the ultimate physical conflict. – Edna Lister, Undated Papers, 1933-1971.

Every agent of conflict stands in terrible danger of being the unwitting tool, the helpless pawn of darkness. This is no path for a Son or Daughter of Light to walk. To dedicate oneself to being an agent of Light will cause one to become the agent also of peace, love, compassion, wisdom, understanding and all other divine virtues of the soul. The choice is always thus: Light or dark, good or evil, peace or war. You may choose which shall be your Master, self or soul, but you must serve. – Edna Lister, Undated Papers, 1933-1971.

Treatment for Rebellion

To train a rebellious child, say, "This is the way it's going to be," and walk off. Then lift all rebellion from his heart. Declare, "Let the Light go forth and consume all rebellion on Name's part." Declare into the child's room, "All darkness is lifted. Let there be Light. Let Light go fill Name's aura and consume all rebellion." – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 24, 1966.

Etymology of rebellion: Latin rebellio, rebellion, from rebellare, "to rebel."

Rebellion is a soul taint.

Lucifer in Starlight
On a starred night Prince Lucifer uprose.
Tired of his dark dominion swung the fiend
Above the rolling ball in cloud part screened,
Where sinners hugged their spectre of repose.
Poor prey to his hot fit of pride were those.
And now upon his western wing he leaned,
Now his huge bulk o'er Afric's sands careened,
Now the black planet shadowed Arctic snows.
Soaring through wider zones
that pricked his scars
With memory of the old revolt from Awe,
He reached a middle height, and at the stars,
Which are the brain of heaven,
he looked, and sank.
Around the ancient track marched, rank on rank,
The army of unalterable law.
George Meredith

The Twilight of Earth
The wonder of the world is o'er:
The magic from the sea is gone:
There is no unimagined shore,
No islet yet to venture on.
The Sacred Hazels' blooms are shed,
The Nuts of Knowledge harvested.

Oh, what is worth this lore of age
If time shall never bring us back
Our battle with the gods to wage
Reeling along the starry track.
The battle rapture here goes by
In warring upon things that die.

Let be the tale of him whose love
Was sighed between white Deirdre's breasts,
It will not lift the heart above
The sodden clay on which it rests.
Love once had power the gods to bring
All rapt on its wild wandering.

We shiver in the falling dew,
And seek a shelter from the storm:
When man these elder brothers knew
He found the mother nature warm,
A hearth fire blazing through it all,
A home without a circling wall.

We dwindle down beneath the skies,
And from ourselves we pass away:
The paradise of memories
Grows ever fainter day by day.
The shepherd stars have shrunk within,
The world's great night will soon begin.

Will no one, ere it is too late,
Ere fades the last memorial gleam,
Recall for us our earlier state?
For nothing but so vast a dream
That it would scale the steeps of air
Could rouse us from so vast despair.

The power is ours to make or mar
Our fate as on the earliest morn,
The Darkness and the Radiance are
Creatures within the spirit born.
Yet, bathed in gloom too long, we might
Forget how we imagined light.

Not yet are fixed the prison bars;
The hidden light the spirit owns
If blown to flame would dim the stars
And they who rule them from their thrones:
And the proud sceptred spirits thence
Would bow to pay us reverence.

Oh, while the glory sinks within
Let us not wait on earth behind,
But follow where it flies, and win
The glow again, and we may find
Beyond the Gateways of the Day
Dominion and ancestral sway.
George William Russell
