Speaking the Word

Speaking the Word is a relative law of doing that originates in the Logos Emanation, the Word of God itself. Speaking the Word as a co-creator with God is the most powerful action you can take on earth.

We find the mandate for speaking the Word among the first events in Creation: Our task is to emulate the Divine by declaring for Light – "Let there be Light" – and by declaring our creations good and very good, as God did, seven times in the first chapter of the Book of Genesis.

Ways of Speaking the Word

The various forms of verbal expression include:

Arguing is a soul taint and easily can be a sin. Only the self desires to argue, and does so to domineer, to assert self and to be proven "right." Arguing is verbal force.

Criticism, a use of the spoken Word, operates under the fundamental principle of contraction, and you may apply it positively (as in pruning the shoots of self) or negatively (as in destroying another's joy). A well-honed critical faculty is a soul virtue and a faculty; criticism as passing judgment is a soul taint.

Edna Lister on Speaking the Word

Use love-dynamite on darkness: "This cannot continue. Let the power of love clear away this condition of darkness." – Edna Lister, Unpublished Lectures, January 16, 1933.

Speak the Word of release for other, and you will get better results than by telling them what to do. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Lectures, February 1, 1933.

Speak the Word in a mighty voice, not a whisper. Declare, "Come forth," and it will manifest. – Edna Lister, Understanding, January 23, 1935.

The spoken Word "let" opens the vibration to pour forth. "Let there be Light." – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, September 6, 1938.

Speak gently, be cautious, be silent, and when you must defend principle and God, speak wisely, sweetly, firmly and finally. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, September 28, 1938.

Pronounce everything that comes as good and very good that God's perfect works shall be done in your life always, that Light may bring forth His perfect plans speedily. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 25, 1938.

Speak the Word for truth and truth shall prevail. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 27, 1938.

In the Master's name, heal the sick, cast out devils, speak the Word of peace and of joy. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, November 14, 1938.

The magic wand of Power, which is extended to you, is the spoken Word: "Let," the Word of clearance and creation. No misuse can occur when you use "let" in a combination of love and joy as selflessness. Love opens the doors of all channels and joy is the force to drive substance through. The substance of which joy and faith are formed is the substance you need for "fulfilling the law," or "filling full" your own needs and heart’s desires. The Power awaits you. So speak the Word, let, permitting no manner of self to creep in. Speak and declare, "Father, let Thy Power move forth, let Thy faith and joy fill full these forms now." This is enough, provided you continually send forth the prayer. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, December 14, 1938.

The Father always says yes. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, August 25, 1939.

Let your works speak, for your actions speak louder than words. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, November 11, 1941.

The Word is a strong vibration, "substance made flesh" as in healing, for example. The Word is mental, a thought before it is spoken. – Edna Lister, The Word Became Flesh, April 26, 1942.

You must understand the difference between demonstration, versus speaking the Word for a miracle. A demonstration is intended to show something or prove it, and begins with a command, such as "Come." A miracle is the result of seeking God first, and speaking the Word, "Let." You are a potential miracle worker when you speak the Word. To prepare yourself, first say, "I so love You, Father," then make your declaration. – Edna Lister, The One Miracle, April 26, 1942.

You hear with your ears, but you listen with your brain cells. When you listen, you hear the vibration of the Logos, the Word, on your brain cells, and you know. This is intuition. – Edna Lister, The Still Waters of Intuition, May 24, 1942.

Your word is the law of life to you. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 4, 1943.

Six times in Genesis God saw His creations as good, and the seventh time "God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good." – Genesis 1:31. To say, "This is good and very good" is the secret of a fulfilled and finished creation. – Edna Lister, The Pearl of Great Price, April 13, 1945.

Hold your torch high and look well to your own life, lest you say an unwary thing to grieve another. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, May 21, 1945.

God has given the soul the power of conscious direction and control through the spoken Word. God has given universal substance only the power to become the vibration the spoken Word decrees. "Let" is the only spoken Word that substance recognizes. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, June 29, 1945.

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. – John 6:63. Your words are spirit, life and truth. If you ask for yourself, it comes to you. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, July 2, 1945.

The thoughts and emotions behind the words are what needs lifting. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, July 4, 1945.

You must account for all idle expenditures of energy in each day's final judgment – actions, gossip, criticizing, even self-condemnation instead of proper repentance, lifting, and giving up of self. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, July 17, 1945.

Every time you open your mouth, you advertise you. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say that" shows that you left your subconscious door open when you intended to keep it shut and locked. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, July 21, 1945.

Speak to a nagger in a definite tone of voice, tell him what you must politely but decisively. Just know what you will say, have your answers ready, and you may find you do not have to do it. The Father will see to it that he will lay off. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, August 1, 1945.

When you surrender to the vibration of the Word as Light, your consciousness expands to overcome both time and space. – Edna Lister, The Word Made Flesh, January 5, 1947.

You will decree a thing, and it shall be established [stand] for you, and light shall shine on your ways. – Job 22:28. Scripture is filled with proclamations of "Thus says the Lord," which are inevitably followed by "And it came to pass." Something always happened between these two statements. Some person acted. According to the laws of creators, you can apply what you know to what you do in three ways: Love, praise and joy.

"You will decree a thing" implies that you must do something more than simply to speak the Word. If you want your decree to stand, you must love God. The Power moving through your words, spoken in love, causes an explosion, which is the Light, shining on your way. To do this, you must give enough love. Decrees made from self-centered love create indifferent results at best, and an explosion of negative evil at worst. – Edna Lister, Promises Fulfilled, March 4, 1948.

The law is to use the principle of omnipotence as authority in speech only under the highest law and consecration, until you have lost the ability to speak words of retaliation or reprimand. Speak reverently, firmly, finally. "That's enough, young man. We don't do that here." When spoken from a point of law, this holds authority. To be perfectly conscious of the subconscious, you must be conscious always. Do not start something you cannot finish. Finish what you begin, and take care of all details. – Edna Lister, From students' notes, July 13, 1949.

As you direct Power on earth by your spoken words, you are God's agent. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, August 10, 1949.

Let all your words be gloriously creative, pure joy of love to speedily bring your creations into outer form. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 20, 1950.

You must become word-conscious to be soul-conscious. – Edna Lister, Undated Papers, August 1950.

Learn the meaning of the words you use, for your words may offend and you could lose friends. – Edna Lister, Promises Made, September 17, 1950.

Most arguments result from people being afraid to lie to their families and friends about their opinions. Seek agreement in the kingdom of heaven, then you cannot lie, because the Father puts the right words of love on your lips. – Edna Lister, I Remember, October 8, 1950.

Take time to agree and adjust and stand in the Light before you speak the Word. This is taking time to become. – Edna Lister, The First Days, June 17, 1951.

When a soul, whose contrite heart and sincere desire for perfection have taken him so high, is negative, he does more damage than a great bolt of lightning striking earth. If nature unleashed a whole electrical storm to strike one place, it would have less destructive effect than one negative sentence spoken by one who is supposed to be releasing the Power. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 22, 1951.

Light does not make you critical, but only brings out your hidden ruthlessness. If you are guilty of speaking it, you will see in others what you express from the self. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, May 19, 1952.

Speak the Word and let he who needs the healing apply it, but know that God does the work. – Edna Lister, The Great Challenge, November 23, 1952.

What if Jesus had stood before Lazarus and said, "You stink"? No matter what it is, declare it good right now. It is perfect. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, May 28, 1953.

If you try to put the load of obedience on top of taints hidden in the subconscious, they come out in your speech, for the mouth speaks out of the meditation of the heart. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. – Psalm 19:14. If you snap or say something negative, don't say, "I didn't mean that," because you did, or you wouldn't have said it. – Edna Lister, Closed Prophecies, June 9, 1953.

There is a time to speak, and a time to remainn silent. Speak for your creations, but never in self-conceit, for God does the creating. You do the standing, lifting and speaking. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, August 27, 1953.

You must verbally express to lift or send out Power, yet the vibration you send forth is a two-edged sword. What you know, at a sub- or super-conscious level, radiates in your tone of voice. The other fellow hears what lances his particular boils. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 3, 1953.

Your words are thermometers that register the "fever" of self. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 25, 1953.

Everyone for whom you speak the Word may pass through the Gates of Light to heavenly realms. – Edna Lister, All Shall See the Salvation of God, November 22, 1953.

Healing power moves to heal wherever you consciously center your attention. Speak the Word and direct it to where God needs it for healing and divine activity. Always follow a declaration with, "This is good and very good. Thank You, Father." – Edna Lister, Your Life's Plan, May 16, 1954.

Use no words that will create more negativity when you describe a need for lifting. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, June 1, 1954.

Don't make "a thing" of it, which is recreating a situation. The "thing" becomes a "dweller on the threshold of consciousness," a huge frightening blob. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, July 13, 1954.

Wherever you speak the Word, faith moves in to lift. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, December 13, 1954.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him nothing was made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. – John 1:1-4. "In the beginning was the Word" describes all Light in the Source. "The Word was with God" as principle. "The Word was God" as personality. "The life was the light of men" means "Light was the Source of men." All general action proceeds from Light to color to tone to number, until it reaches form, which manifests on the spoken Word. The Word, when spoken, starts the personalized vibration of creation in manifestation. – Edna Lister, Four Phases of the Word, February 1, 1955.

If you've spoken your words instead of the Father's, self shows. Speak only to be spoken through. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, July 1, 1955.

Wisdom, Love and the Logos are the names of the first of the six trinities that are working principles. The Emanations are the first vibrations of the Godhead expressing. They flow unceasingly forth from and back to the Source as the River of Life, never changing their rate of vibration. The absolute trinity is Wisdom, Love and the Logos. In it, Power is potential, with the Father and Mother acting as one dual power. The supreme trinity is Mind, as Christ consciousness, Substance and Power as Energy. The third trinity is Light, color and tone. From this point, form begins to condense. All spoken words originate from this trinity; the spoken Word, "Let there be Light," is always used to open a new cosmic division. The fourth trinity is the Word, number and form, the trinity of creative becoming. From here we descend to the microcosm, the creative trinity of doing: Oversoul or superconscious mind, conscious mind and subconscious mind, the trinity that is you. – Edna Lister, Enfolding Back to the Source, July 22, 1955.

Tell stories of illness only to someone who will lift, no one else. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, August 15, 1955.

I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. – Revelation 10:9. This describes eating idle words. They taste sweet when we speak them, but we have stomach trouble if we say, "I didn't mean that." The words don't know you don't mean them, but work on their own vibration according to degree and kind. – Edna Lister, The Open Door, November 20, 1955.

Describe only the highlights of a need — once is enough, with no details, no comment on "what happened to me," or dwelling on the effect. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 22, 1956.

God is over all. Trust God. Forget man. Put him on a cloud and say, "You are perfect. You are good. You are doing God's perfect will." – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, November 1, 1956.

How easy it is to sink into an old desire to do something about it yourself with too many words that sear and destroy. Practice golden silence and speak only when you see something slipping. Each has free choice to use the right words to create a kingdom of beauty, to release Power, to stand as a creator, to love God enough. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, December 2, 1956.

Most metaphysical statements are twaddle, the sonic barrier you must break. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, February 5, 1957.

When you ask for a "sign," your Guards must make a sacrifice to bring it to pass. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, February 28, 1957.

When another needs wise speech and you do not speak, you are selfish. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, March 7, 1957.

It may take months, but transubstantiation works. The substance of the Source must descend on the words, "Let there be Light," but it doesn't work until someone transforms it with words of fire, not long, empty prayers. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, April 4, 1957.

Psychiatrists and psychologists say to "Let it go." We say, "I lift it. Father, let me be healed." – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, June 6, 1957.

God's words can organize themselves when you allow them to fulfill their mission without interference. Declare, "I empty myself of all I have. Fill me anew." – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, September 17, 1957.

When you are angry or speak unkindly, you stamp your name on his aura. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, December 15, 1957.

You must speak every man's language. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 2, 1958.

Know when to speak and when to remain silent. Ofte, the other fellow must find out for himself. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 3, 1958.

Harsh tones of voice cut like a knife. Use firmly loving, lifting tones that take responsibility when seeing another's faults or failures. Lift him, not by force, push or demands. Say, "Come out of him," meaning stubbornness, resentment, etc., and "Let there be Light." When the Elect do this, we will have perfection. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, April 28, 1958.

No Power remains in the spoken words of evil when you say, "I hear thee not. Let there be Light." Say to evil, "The Truth of God is transforming you. You are lifted. Let there be Light." – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, June 20, 1958.

Your breath is life sparks, so if you send it forth as hate, it turns and bites you. As Jesus said, "All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men, but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven unto men." – Matthew 12:31. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 9, 1958.

You are the sum of your words; they are you. Your heart speaks through your words. When you no longer subconsciously submit to the world mind – newspapers, gossip, television, etc. – Light brainwashes you. Cast out idle words, such as, "I feel awful, just terrible." All your words circle the world, accumulate seven times their weight in similar substance and return with a hard blow. – Edna Lister, Brainwashing, Inc., October 19, 1958.

You may not let any antagonism or rebellion in your heart color your voice when you speak. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 30, 1958.

Look beyond the stinkers, and speak the Word in complete love. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, December 15, 1958.

No word is spoken without the use of numbers: A word is a number; a number is a word. This is how the Word becomes form. – Edna Lister, The Kabbalistic Four Worlds, May 26, 1959.

In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God. – John 1:1. Many different schools of thought have taught "words," which they have claimed is "the Word." One word cannot express all principle. "In the beginning" all of God was the Word, therefore all principles were contained in the Word as God. – Edna Lister, Healing by Principle, July 12, 1959.

For centuries the wise used symbols to conceal the "lost Word." The Word is the Logos, an Emanation-vibration of God. Man lost the Word as he lost awareness and consciousness of God. Those who descended into darkness of soul repudiated God, denied the laws of the universe represented by symbols, forgot their divine heritage, and buried symbolism under ignorance. "In the beginning was the Word." The Word is God. God is God's name in heaven; Good is God's name on earth. When we declare all that comes to us is good, we call that lost Name-Word-Logos into our life.

Words spoken, even the same way, never mean quite the same, because the Power is greater and the meaning excels itself. "I love you" will always mean more than it did. "I love you" turns on the heat that dissolves the ice in hearts and minds. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 29, 1959.

God is the Word that you speak. In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God. – John 1:1. All words are God. This is the reason for no idle words. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, November 2, 1959.

The greatest need to declare a miracle is when it appears as something else. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, December 14, 1959.

God created you to be an expression of the Divine. God did not create you to express to hear your own voice. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, December 15, 1959.

When you say, "Let there be Light," you are saying, "Let God be here as Light!" Remember the word, as. Light contains absolutely all that you need for creation. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 28, 1960.

Your words condition your life. Life cannot condition your words. The Word conditions your life. – Edna Lister, How Do I Wait Upon the Lord, June 28, 1960.

The spoken Word is a vibration. Declarations of good concentrate extra Light and Power in your words. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 3, 1960.

When God says yes, even trees and rocks say yes, and so it shall be. Only those who withhold can fail. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 10, 1960.

You must live up to your high words. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 1, 1961.

When darkness comes, in the silence, decree, "Be thou healed. Let this crust of darkness fall from ye. Ye are Light." – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 12, 1961.

Let the words of your mouth follow the meditations of your soul, not "I didn't mean that." You cannot lose when you have no "ifs" or "whens." – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, July 24, 1961.

When publicly speaking, pray, consecrate yourself and shoot for the stars. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, December 6, 1961.

Do not hesitate to be silent or at the right time to speak. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 6, 1962.

Your job is to be an instrument for the fulfillment of miracles. To accomplish a physical miracle after having done all you can, stand unwavering, unmoving, untouchable by anything the world can say or do. Say, "I reach out with my arms of Light and bring it together for good!" – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, April 4, 1962.

Anything of self in the statement causes your life sparks to cling to that person. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, June 7, 1962.

If another berates you for a remark you have made, and you find yourself saying, "I didn’t mean it that way," you are not in the Light. Your prayers then release only enough Power to transform what you created while you were low in consciousness. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, June 7, 1962.

As you plant seeds and watch the miracle of growth, so do you speak the Word and watch miracles of transformation. – Edna Lister, Christ Now Reigns, July 9, 1962.

When the Father says, "It is good," let no man be a block, for it shall come to pass as He has declared. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, November 9, 1962.

You may not pray one thing and let your words say the opposite. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, November 9, 1962.

The spoken Word acts as law on Substance, directed by Mind. Substance may become whatever form divine Love fulfills. Wisdom speaks the Word to set it in action under the law of love and attraction. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, December 17, 1962.

Do not dramatize stories about self, governments or persons. Put everything into Light. If you dwell on it, others will pick it up and use it. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, February 7, 1963.

You can kneel at the Source in devotion, then return and speak sharply. "I didn't mean it that way" forms an invisible block until your devotion reaches high enough to see where you missed the mark. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, February 27, 1963.

Let no less than perfect words pass your lips. Speak high, magnificent words of glory, believe them and it will be so. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, March 7, 1963.

You can lift anything that comes when you say, "Father, here is more to change. Hold me! Let me climb higher to Thee!" – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, March 17, 1963.

You create with the word "let," the only word that unlocks the Degree of Christos. – Edna Lister, Seven Stages of Unfolding From Concentration to Comprehension, December 3, 1963.

The Word, or Logos, is not a word formed for speech with letters from the alphabet, but an Emanation from the Source, which contains all of everything created. It is an opening rate of vibration, the highest known to God or man, moving forth to form the outer confines of universes. As the Logos travels away from the Source, it vibrates at a lower rate, condensing in substance until it finally reaches a point in crystallization we call physical matter. All prayers partake of the quality of the Word or Logos, lowering the vibration and condensing the spiritual substance into outer visible form. The magic Word to speak over your creations, "good," is found above and it releases the original Logos vibration and "lets" it work for you. The magic of the word "good" sets the right keynote for the last step in your work of creating. The words "very good" lower the rate of vibration of invisible substance until you can feel and see it with the physical eyes. – Edna Lister, Five Keys of the Kingdom, 1964.

Watch your idle words. Make certain you speak only under a just appraisal, and as a treatment that goes forth to the world with no self in the words to make someone go your way. Speak aloud to shatter the evil in it, but be sure it is selfless, only to do the will of God. You must know what has to be healed when praying for someone. Call it by name to shatter its power. Call it only once. Then declare it good, and declare him healed. Put it on a cloud and keep it lifted. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, May 14, 1964.

Declare, "This is good" spontaneously, even under an accusation. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 23, 1965.

To every prayer, you must add "Let the Light do the work." – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 27, 1965.

Every thought, picture and word is the Power of God acting. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, March 24, 1965.

Writers on antiquity have written that Pythagoras said, "Even as there are three divine notions and intelligible regions, so there is a triple word, for the hierarchical order always manifests itself by threes. There is the word simple, the word hieroglyphical, and the word symbolic: In other terms, there is the word that expresses, the word that conceals, and the word that signifies; the whole hieratic intelligence is in the perfect knowledge of these three degrees." – Edna Lister, Pythagorus: The Establishment of His Three Degrees, June 8, 1965.

"In the beginning was the Word," which is recorded on our soul tapes, so it behooves you to clean up your words. Listen to them to learn what taints you have uncovered and conquered. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, June 14, 1965.

Of yourself, nothing — as one with God, everything. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, February 13, 1966.

The spoken Word is invincible. Speak the Word at a glance. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, April 25, 1966.

You pay for every jot and tittle of what you recreate. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, May 12, 1966.

You must be steadfast in devotion. Declaring, "Let there be Light" both day and night, will dissipate any weakness. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, July 19, 1966.

Do not cast your pearls before swine. – Matthew 7:6 is a law of words. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, September 8, 1966.

Never speak in a helter-skelter way. Consider your words well before speaking for what needs lifting. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, September 26, 1966.

Use the power of suggestion as the broadcasting vibration, and use the person's name. "Name, you have your new position," etc. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 17, 1966.

Say, "God is good! God is Light" seventy times seven per day to remove psychological and external blocks. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, October 20, 1966.

When you speak the Word for another, you empower the Light in his Star to go forth. The only limit is "according to your faith" and the size of your belief. – Edna Lister, Seven Life Ages of Man: From Birth to the Star's Descent, November 22, 1966.

Words cannot defile the true meaning of your being – you are and must be the thing. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, January 5, 1967.

The Logos, or the Word, causes energy to become motion. – Edna Lister, Beauty: A Spiritual Way of Life, May 9, 1967.

Appreciate your creative Word, "Let there be Light." Every image builds a mold, then Light fills it. See only the perfect, true, glancing only an instant to say, "Let there be Light." – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, June 19, 1967.

Anyone who goes to the Source of Light and speaks the Word closes the mouths of lions. One person can change 1,000 others. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, November 2, 1967.

One declaration of, "Let evil be consumed," is stronger than an army. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, November 9, 1967.

God formed a world "in the beginning" when He used Mind to breathe; the Word exploded and Creation opened. The Word was God as Mind in action as a planned, controlled explosion, a rhythmic pulsation filling all universes, which were then "void," with no form. The Word, acting as Mind upon Substance, began to build up enough condensed Power to last a whole Day of Manifestation. God first created a place, space, which He then filled with principle and personality. From principle and personality came the second great action, time. This was all Mind and contained the whole Plan of Creation for all universes, an unchangeable, unalterable and perfect Magna Carta, containing the beginning and the end. God impregnated every life spark with the whole, and each has carried out the Divine Plan ever since He formed it. The Magna Carta still is; God's ability to stand and know in the background has grown greater, not less. It is greater than all the atheists, agnostics, greater than the millions who degrade the Christ to a mere man. No deviations, no denials or delays, nothing humans can do can change one Word of God's Universal Magna Carta. – Edna Lister, Religion and the World, November 26, 1967.

Religion is the Word, expressing as humanity. – Edna Lister, The Supremacy of Religion, November 27, 1967.

The Logos, or the Word, contains a million or more unborn new ideas to draw upon. – Edna Lister, Faith in Action, 1968.

As you conquer, you learn to speak the words, "Let there be Light," under any situation produced by earth. You find yourself freed from all slavery to outer conditions. You become too busy practicing the laws, as a disciple and follower of our Lord, Jesus the Christ, to be bothered by distractions of earth and you find yourself becoming a living ensample of the law instead of just an ordinary, outer, everyday example of the law. – Edna Lister, Five Important Steps in Ascension, 1968.

Your thought of "How I love you" will positively affect one who expresses against God; it could empower him to a higher choice. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, November 4, 1968.

When you say, "It never happened," the Father wipes it out and all things work together for good. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, November 11, 1968.

No darkness can exist when you speak the Word and say, "Let there be Light." When you live that original Word "that was God in the beginning" and still is God as action, hour by hour, you reach that high point of Light where you become faith unconquerable, immovable and untouchable. You may speak no idle words in the Light, for the Love of God moves as compassion for the whole world. Its tender, yearning, brooding quality takes over your soul while faith holds firm contact with the transforming Light, and you are transfigured, becoming the "Word made Light," strong, powerful and divine. – Edna Lister, Let There Be Light, March 16, 1969.

You have power over your spoken words. Let them be words you will want others to quote next week, next year. – Edna Lister, Unpublished Papers, December 18, 1969.

You want God to say "enough," but God wants you to say it. – Edna Lister, Undated Papers, 1933-1971.

Nothing is impossible under the spoken Word, yet its result isn't always instantaneous. A faithful undercurrent vibration must uphold the spoken word until it goes forth as supreme Power to build the object or desire into outer form. – Edna Lister, Undated Papers, 1933-1971.

Stories That Illustrate the Power of the Word

Lazarus, Come Forth!: Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled. And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. Jesus wept. Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him! And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died? Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go. Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. – John 11:32-45.

Old Testament on Speaking the Word

God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good – Genesis 1:3-4.

Six times in Genesis God saw His creations as good, and the seven time "God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good." To declare it good is the secret of a fulfilled and finished creation.

The Word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth. He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. – Psalm 33:4-9.
