The Three Windows of the Soul

The source of the symbol of the three windows of the soul is the Book of Daniel, chapter six, which features the story of Daniel being cast into the lions’ den. Daniel was a young Jewish nobleman when brought as a captive to Babylon, where he lived the rest of his life. He had served the Assyrian kings Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar before Darius the Mede became king by conquest, when Daniel was about age eighty.

“Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.”—Daniel 6:3. Jealous nobles of Darius’ court hatched a plot to eliminate Daniel. They had a hard time because he was faithful and innocent of wrongdoing. “Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.”—Daniel 6:5.

They convinced the king to sign a law stating that no one could petition any god or man except the king for thirty days. Since this was a “law of the Medes and the Persians,” it could not be altered. Predictably, Daniel, who was an observant Jew, ignored the new law:

“Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.”—Daniel 6:10-11.

Caught in the act of worshipping God and praying to Him, Daniel was arrested and cast into the lions’ den where he spent the night with the hungry lions. Darius, though he was troubled by being snared in this subterfuge, believed that Daniel’s God would save him and said so.

First thing the next morning, Darius asked, “O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?" Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.”—Daniel 6:20-23.

Edna Lister categorized her lectures on the interface of body, mind and soul under the heading, Spectrology, which is “the science of spectrum analysis.” She regarded the whole person to be the “living soul” in its entirety as appetitive soul, rational soul and Oversoul, functioning through the three phases of mind — subconscious, conscious and super-conscious mind, a full spectrum.

Edna Lister on the Three Windows of the Soul

Your head contains three symbolic “windows” that must remain “open toward Jerusalem.” These windows are dedicated to the absolute principles of Wisdom, Love, and Power, figuratively and relatovely to the Father, the Mother, and the Son. On your left is the red ray of Power applied as the energy of the Son of Selflessness, the Logos. In the center is Love, the blue sustaining ray of the Mother of Substance. On your right is the yellow ray of planning applied as the Mind of the Father of Wisdom.—Edna Lister, Spectrology, November 23, 1935.

The Three Windows of the Soul

The soul uses the body’s equipment. The seat of the desire faculty is in the solar or celiac plexus at the pit of the stomach. The seat of the will faculty is in the center of consciousness in the brain’s cortex. [This seat of control was found to be accurate in 2016.] When will sinks to be ruled at the seat of desire, the soul lives life in its lower aspect, with little or no desire or will power for anything beyond eating, sleeping, and mating.

When you have cleansed the subconscious mind of the appetitive soul’s dominance, the faculty of desire, arises and mates with the conscious rational soul, the faculty of will in the head. Then will becomes the servant of illumination, seated in the pineal body, and desire becomes the handmaiden of intuition, seated in the pituitary gland. Together, intuition and illumination function as the soul faculty of apprehension under the command of the hypothalamus, which “speaks the Word,” telling the pituitary gland to release the proper hormones to the endocrine system.

This process is known as the first marriage of the Lamb. The Light is then released through the higher creative centers within the brain onto the nerve ganglia known as the optic chiasma of the thalamus, which we call the mystic or third eye.

By mating your personal will and desire to God’s will and desire for you, you open the three windows of the soul. The Holy Breath as the white Light of the Christ moves through the middle window of the Mother and mingles with its blue ray. The red ray functions through your left window, and the yellow ray functions through your right window.

Thirty-one pairs of spinal nerves from the right and left sides of the body carry information to and from the brain: eight pairs are cervical, twelve pairs are thoracic, five pairs are lumbar, five pairs are sacral, and one pair is the coccygeal nerves. The spinal nerve tracts cross over from the left and right side of the spine at the base of the skull (at the pyramidal decussation), through the pons of the medulla oblongata into the midbrain (part of the brainstem), forming the seat of the soul’s records of its entire existence.

These nerves then extend from the midbrain up through the convolutions of the brain becoming nerve centers in the brain [directly involved with the cascades of neurotransmitters]. To spiritual sight, each has a phosphorescent tip that bursts into a flame of glory when touched by the white Light of the Christ, forming the flaming petals of the 1,000-petaled lotus in the atomic mental body, visible to the clairvoyant sight of the mystic third eye as a halo.

Two groups of nerves, from the right and left occipital lobes, each form a band through which the optic nerves cross from the right to the left side of the brain, directly under the windows of the soul, the pineal body, and pituitary gland. The crossover point is the optic chiasma of the thalamus, the seat of the all-seeing mystic eye. The white Light of the Christ descends from above, illumines the optic chiasma, and shines through your eyes and forehead into the etheric substance about you. This Light is the “Spirit of the Lord” — “And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”—Deuteronomy 31:8. Thus, Light goes before you to “Make straight the way of the Lord.”—John 1:23. Light makes your way clear and easy. The voice of conscience, your guardian angel, and the still small voice of God use the Light this way to speak to you in the silence. We call this action being “o’ershadowed.”—Edna Lister, December 9, 1946.

After the first marriage of the Lamb, the Oversoul begins descending to create the three-in-one of soul, finally taking possession of the seat of the higher creative center (the brain’s nerves and glands) to rule the physical body. When the star of the Oversoul descends, two of its five points (rays of Light) rest on the pineal body and pituitary gland, while the upper three points of the star serve as the windows of the soul.

The higher creative center of your fire body is the vehicle of your Oversoul, symbolically a five-pointed blue star at whose heart is a small yellow six-pointed star. The lower two points protect the pineal body and pituitary gland. The three upper points, called the three windows of the soul, hold rays that protect the atomic mental body lotus petals so they may remain open. Thus, the eyes truly are the “windows of the soul.”

The Light from your Oversoul star shines through these blue and yellow stars as soul vision, giving you complete freedom of the spheres. When the Oversoul rests in the body, you experience health, strength and radiance. Spirit is beautiful within and without, and you become a Christed One. We call this state being “inshadowed” or “indwelt,” meaning that the Spirit is fully alive within you.

In this equipment, you are supposed to live as a creator god. Everything God has in the universe is in this body you wear. You are the microcosm of His macrocosm and like unto the whole.—Edna Lister, Spectrology, December 7, 1936.

"Dr. Lister showed me how to raise my arms and breathe energy. She told me that I must keep my three windows of the soul open continuously. When I close them and fail to keep my consciousness raised, my vitality fades immediately. I have wondered why my vitality comes and goes, and now I AM answered."—Ruth Johnson, journal entry, May 18, 1945.

You can easily remember the purpose of the three windows of the soul if you think of them as the three Ws that stand for

Waiting for the Lord in the high place,
Watching the Light for your answer, and
Working to carry it out.

Thus, you hear, see and execute. You cannot live in the past, or the future. You can live only in the eternal now. Oversoul is always waiting, watching and working while you put the bridle on self and give the reins to God.—Edna Lister, May 22, 1952.

p>The personal soul records in the midbrain neurons contain the mysteries of the Holy Spirit revealed as three rays of Light that shine through the windows of the soul — illumining earthly and spiritual execution, while walking the Via Christa to return to God.—Edna Lister, November 23, 1953.

Of the three windows of the soul, the central window of the Mother focuses the love ray to ignite your personal creative fire, which ascends from the sacrum to the brain to make of you a seer, prophet and oracle.—Edna Lister, December 17, 1957.

Consecrated mastery opens the windows of the soul at the brow center so you may see, hear and speak without self. Yellow, blue and red rays form the pure white Light of the Christ, the Son of Selflessness and Joy. You touch this vibration under the Christos Degree.

Light from your star shines through the three windows of the soul, open to the yellow, blue and red rays. They recombine to form the white Light of the Christ that strikes the optic chiasma of the thalamus and enters the pineal body and pituitary gland. Light then descends the spine to different parts of the body as healing rays. Thus, you open the windows of the soul to New Jerusalem.

Light fills your Oversoul star under the consecrated vibration of the Priest Degree. This star is the Oversoul’s seat of thinking, and it rests just above the head. The Priest’s work degrees begin with opening the windows of the soul at the brow center and end with the indwelling of your Oversoul as you.—Edna Lister, May 26, 1959.

The three windows of the soul open toward Jerusalem, symbolized by your Oversoul star above the golden bowl. Light pours over the ganglia of the nerve plexus centers giving vitality to physical organs. Seven desire body vital centers overlay seven physical glands and nerve plexus centers, where the colors of the aura are fastened.—Edna Lister, June 16, 1959.

The descent of the Oversoul star means personal rebirth, resurrection and ascension. As the star descends to touch your head, its two lower points form rays over the pineal body and pituitary gland. The three upper rays are the three windows of the soul. This star is nestled in the heart of the 16-petaled mental body lotus, which is the point of Christing, when Oversoul’s I AM consciousness has bestowed intellectual omnipotence. This is your sign of the absolute and universal synthesis into a perfect formula or idea for your answers.—Edna Lister, October 11, 1960.

There are seven breaths and seven grades of consciousness corresponding to seven veils of illusion. To see with the eyes of soul, you must part the sixth veil. When you break law or go off in an emotional outburst, like an attack of mother-in-law-itis, the veil descends again. The seven breaths power your vitality — four lower breaths fuel the body and three higher breaths enter the windows of the soul.—Edna Lister, April 4, 1963.

The story of Daniel in the lions’ den and the three windows of the soul represents your soul breaking through to the Source.—Edna Lister, October 16, 1967.

The mental body is atomic in its primary structure and holds forty-four lotus centers that appear as beautiful blossoms of Light. The crown lotus center is rooted in the atoms of the midbrain neurons. Light shines through it to fill the optic nerves. The Oversoul star then descends to form the three windows of soul, which are capable of being in direct contact with the Emanations. The Mother’s blue ray descends through the lotus and central window, onto the optic chiasma, filling every midbrain neuron with pure Light. When the Oversoul star is enthroned within the 1,000-petaled lotus at the crown of your head, it becomes the Crown of Life. When the Oversoul star descends fully, the 16-petaled lotus at the throat center becomes the throne of life as you speak the Word for healing.—Edna Lister, November 4, 1968.
