Desire

Desire is defined as "to have a strong wish for; to long for, covet, crave; to long for (something lost); to feel the loss of, miss, regret." Desire is rooted in memory; you cannot desire anything without first having known it.

Desire is an absolute principle: God desired to create and a universe was born. God must first desire to express or no outer form of Creation can manifest. God has given us three creative tools, desire, thinking, and imagination. Desire is the central building faculty of consciousness.

Desire is your first expression of the Love principle. Then the abstract principle of expansion or increase operates in you as desire. Desire is a law of being rooted in the Love principle under expansion or increase.

Desire is also a law of doing that you express in many ways, for instance as longing, wanting, craving or coveting. All desires occur under the expansion principle, which explains why restricting certain desires is necessary. Desire is also a soul virtue and a faculty. You get nowhere in life without desire for something different from what you have. Desire is your motivation for all change and gain.

Edna Lister on Desire

You can stand steadfast, and be worth what you desire to be worth in God's service only as you stand in the heart of the fire of desire. – Edna Lister, The Sermon on the Mount, January 31, 1933.

"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." – Matthew 19:24. A camel has two humps, called desire and will. The "eye of the needle" is the optic chiasm of the thalamus.[1]

You can give up self-desires in favor of desire for Light and heaven, and get the first hump through the eye. The second hump is harder, to give up the self-will. When you realize that you, of yourself, can will nothing, you turn on desire, and God performs the miracle. – Edna Lister, Recognizing Your Good, April 22, 1934.

The first law of creation is to ardently desire and vividly imagine. Everything works out perfectly when you let law use you with ardent desire and vivid imagination. – Edna Lister, Eternal Youth: The Seven Breaths, November 6, 1946.

The solar plexus is the seat of desire, and the seat of will is in the center of consciousness in the head [fully functioning pineal body, pituitary gland and optic chiasm]. When will sinks to the seat of desire, the soul lives life in its lower aspect, with no will power. When you cleanse the subconscious mind, it moves up and mates with will in the head.

With this first marriage of the Lamb, will becomes illumination with its seat in the pineal body, and desire becomes the seat of intuition in the pituitary gland. Light is then released through the higher creative center onto the nerve ganglia called the optic chiasm of the thalamus, which is called the "mystic eye." Desire mated to will [Bride and Groom] opens the three "windows of the soul." The Holy Breath as the white Christ Light fills the center window of the Mother to mingle its blue ray with the red ray of the right window and the yellow ray of the left window. – Edna Lister, December 9, 1946.

Wisdom operates in you as illumination in the pineal body, and as your faculty of will. Love becomes Wisdom's negative pole, seated in the sacrum plexus, dwelling place of the creative fire. Thus, the macrocosm of Mind becomes the microcosm of individual consciousness. The seat of will is in the frontal lobes of the brain; the seat of intellect is at the solar plexus, called the self's "brain."

Free will is not self-will. You lay your self on the crossbar to crucify self-will. Your personal desire must ascend to mate with personal will; will becomes Wisdom, and desire becomes Love. Thus, desire and will mate and become intuition and illumination, or I AM consciousness; this is the birth of the Holy Spirit within you, the embodied soul. Love then descends to the sacrum as the creative fire. Will as Wisdom frees itself of intellect and ascends to the pineal body. This is the birth of free will in a Christed One. – Edna Lister, The Gospel of the Cross, October 18, 1953.

To be right, you must lay self-will on the transverse of the cross. Will is called "free will" or "free choice." Desire is the creative fire in you. You cannot kill desire or eliminate will, nor can you sacrifice will or desire, but you can cleanse the self. You achieve balance when you mate desire with will. As desire ascends, it becomes the flame to purify will, if you have laid it on the transverse of the cross.

The world is torn between giving up will and expressing "free will." The intellectuals argue that God bestowed the gift of free will upon us and we therefore must use it. They fear that by giving up their free will, they will become nonentities, and thus fear nonresistance. To compound this conundrum, Eastern philosophy and puritanical religious sects have advocated killing desire, lumping the good with the not-so-good and calling it all "bad," "dirty," or "evil."

You express love as desire, and wisdom as will. To do so, you may choose to be a vessel, a channel, or an instrument of love and wisdom. Yet you cannot truly discover the nature of "free will" until you know what love is. It is not that "I have" or "I don't have" free will. Will and desire are functions of the soul indwelling the body. The action of free will is smooth, sweet and rhythmic, but the exercise of personal will runs on a flat tire. – Edna Lister, Righteousness, April 7, 1954.

Cast all your desire needs upon high altars until you fulfill them. – Edna Lister, April 12, 1954.

When you ascend self-desires and self-will to become one with soul desires and the free will of God, they fuse as Love and Wisdom in balance, which we call the I AM consciousness. Love is the soul's high desire. – Edna Lister, June 1, 1954.

Wisdom and Love are always recognizable, although they divide themselves into multiple lesser principles and laws. You can trace everything back to one or the other of these two. Edna Lister on Desires, Thinking, and Imagination

[The laws of the soul include this primary set, designed to clarify the right use of imagination, thinking and desires.]

God gives each soul enough substance of Light, stored in his Star, to fill all his molds of desire full and to bring to pass all his needs promised him of God.

Each soul must release his soul substance by transforming it from invisible Light to a lower form of substance which can be seen, from storage in Star to earth mold.

Your obedience to the fullness of God's great Love is your true safeguard, success and dream fulfillment.

Love is the only true fulfillment of law. To you is given power of right thinking. Use it. Each soul is given the power of right love. Use it. You have the power of right seeing. Use it. You have the full power of right hearing. Use it.

You have the power of right discrimination. Use it. You have the power of right reason. Use it. You have the power of right use of Light. So use. You have all power over darkness. Use it. You have the full power of all discretion. So use. You have the power of right faith. Use it.

The right use of Power is letting. To "let" means to become unconquerable, fully invincible law. – Edna Lister, July 1945.

Etymology of desire: Latin desiderare: de- "down from" + sidus, sider- "star."

Desire is an absolute principle.

Desire is an abstract principle.

Desire is a law of being.

Desire is a law of doing.

Desire is a soul virtue.

Desire is a soul faculty.

Quote

“A thought is an upshot of the desire. When someone thinks about what he wants, he does not think of something undesirable. For example, a person never thinks about the day of his death. On the contrary, he will always contemplate his perpetuity, for this is his desire. Thus, one always thinks of what is desirable … It turns out that thought serves desire, and desire is the "self" of the person. Now, there is a great self, or a small self. A great self dominates the small selves. He who is a small self has no dominion whatsoever, and the advice is to magnify the self through the diligence of the thought on the desire, since it grows to the extent that one thinks of it.”
~ Rabbi Yehuda Ashlag

Fire and Ice
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favour fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
Robert Frost

Where true Love burns,
Desire is Love’s pure flame;
It is the reflex of our earthly frame,
That takes its meaning from the nobler part,
And but translates the language of the heart.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge
