Impatience, Irritability

Impatience is a want of endurance, a failure to bear suffering, discomfort, annoyance with equanimity, irritability, and irascibility.Oxford English Dictionary
Irritability, which is a hallmark of biological life, is the state of being easily annoyed or excited to anger or impatience, proneness to vexation or annoyance, and petulance.Oxford English Dictionary

“No patience is the opposite of impatience.”—Edna Lister

Impatience is a form of forcing. Impatience and irritability are soul taints. To feel impatience and irritable are signs that self is rising to the top. When you indulge impatience and irritability, you are pandering to the self. Light can restore the balance to any interpersonal situation when you release it and strive to remain balanced in the Light yourself.

Edna Lister on Impatience and Irritation

Impatience and doubt may cause delay, but do not stop your action unless you permit it.—Edna Lister, November 14, 1938.

Drudgery removes impatience and false pride from your soul.—Edna Lister, March 9, 1939.

Impatience is a form of forcing.—Edna Lister, February 13, 1941.

You work with people, not saints, and if you rub their fur the wrong way, they become irritated.—Edna Lister, February 6, 1942.

Let no false emotion of impatience betray you or tear down your hard work.—Edna Lister, December 22, 1942.

Indifference, lukewarmness and selfishness are reasons for not completing a job or leaving it to another to finish. This may cause another to waste time, to blame, be irritated, or to condemn. The one who left it undone must pay the debt, no matter how long it takes.—Edna Lister, June 23, 1945.

Greater Light as Power can bring sensitivity and greater irritability.—Edna Lister, God’s Eternal Purpose, February 24, 1950.

Words born of irritation and impatience are but your own buried coarseness surfacing.—Edna Lister, November 28, 1957.

Often you receive testing and initiation after being in the golden silence as the world comes upon you. Family, friends and folks at work may be quite irritated, impatient and antagonistic at times you as you become a light for God. If you can love Him enough to accept the blame that goes with their irritation or resentment, you can put the irritated person higher in the Light and Light will heal him and you too. Do not blame another for being irritated by you.—Edna Lister, December 2, 1957.

Sometimes you feel like a factory boiler room as you begin to pray. All your subconscious conflicts begin to clamor when you become silent. You cannot enter the golden silence filled with resentments and irritations, yet most people just try to get rid of these subconscious distractions—suppressing them, pushing them back to the boiler room where they continue to howl and clank. Don’t join them. You cannot succeed by trying to escape.—Edna Lister, Come Ye Apart, April 20, 1958.

Everyone has a high degree of word action, all too often including idle words, which are the biggest waste of soul substance you can indulge. Bite your tongue when irritated; otherwise, you pay the other fellow’s debts, too.—Edna Lister, As the World Sees Me, June 22, 1958.

Impatience creates a point of force, and means you are not waiting on the Lord.—Edna Lister, July 24, 1958.

If someone irritates you, something in your mind needs lifting and cleansing, or you wouldn’t be irritated. Your irritation needs cleansing, not the other person.—Edna Lister, October 9, 1958.

It is a fallacy to believe that the other fellow becomes more selfish if you give of your love. What he expresses shows the degree of love you are giving, and his reaction to your love will reflect every remaining selfishness, resentment, irritation, self-pity and pride in your subconscious. The reaction you get depends on the degree of your love, unadulterated by self.—Edna Lister, October 13, 1958.

Irritation and impatience most often manifest in idle words.—Edna Lister, Ten Plagues on Egypt, December 2, 1958.

No patience is the opposite of impatience. Work for acceptance and endurance of delays as being perfect.
When no tone remains in you for darkness to play, you will be beyond the reach of darkness to touch you personally. When you have lifted taints and conquered self, you hold, are not hurt, bored or impatient. You will be holding your Father’s hand, receiving His compassion, not needing outer sympathy.—Edna Lister, May 11, 1959.

When you speak in malice, irritation or hate, it shows that you are blaming others and using force by demanding they do it your way. The vehemence you send forth determines the degree of force returned.—Edna Lister, Jesus’ Seven Last Words, June 7, 1959.

Lost articles become invisible when you are irritated, upset or blame another when they disappear. Pray your way up and the Light will reveal them.—Edna Lister, Eight Great Powers of Being, June 23, 1959.

Your rebellion, irritation and resentment will create interference in attaining your goals.—Edna Lister, September 7, 1961.

Impatience orbits the earth, collects every floating bit of impatience and returns larger than before. You pay for the accumulation as it returns to you.—Edna Lister, January 23, 1965.
